Gutter & exterior cleaning in Preston

Preston is the biggest place we cover, and it's really a dozen different jobs in one city - the tight Victorian terraces around Deepdale and Plungington behave nothing like the interwar semis of Fulwood or the newer estates out towards Cottam and Ingol. We cover all of it for gutter cleaning and exterior work, and we tailor the approach to the street we're standing on.

What the outside of a Preston home is up against

Across inner Preston - Deepdale, Plungington, Fishwick, Frenchwood - you get dense red-brick terraces, a lot of them rented, with rear alleys and shared guttering. These are quick to block because there's usually something overhanging, and the back-alley access means we plan the ground-level setup before we start. Out in Fulwood, Ashton-on-Ribble, Penwortham and Broadgate the housing opens up into 1930s semis and detached homes with longer runs of fascia and soffit, and the leafier roads near the Ribble bring more leaf fall in autumn.

The river and the parks are the giveaway for what fills Preston gutters: mature trees around Avenham, Miller Park and the Ribble corridor drop a steady load through autumn, while the exposed newer estates on the north and west edges get more wind-blown debris than moss. We clear gutters, wash fascias and soffits, clean conservatory roofs, treat roof moss and pressure-wash driveways and patios right across the city - all from the ground wherever we safely can, with a photo report after every visit.

Preston's size means the seasons land differently depending on where you are. The mature limes and planes around Avenham, Miller Park and the Ribble embankment drop heavily and late, so homes in Frenchwood, Avenham and Fishwick often need their autumn gutter clean held back until November to be worth doing. The newer, more open estates at Cottam, Ingol and Lea see far less leaf but catch wind-blown grit and the fine green algae that builds on north-facing fascia and render - a soft wash rather than a gutter clear is usually what those houses are really after.

The student and rental belt around the university and Deepdale is its own kind of job. Houses in multiple occupation there often go years between cleans, so a first visit usually means heavy, compacted debris and downpipes that have silted up completely rather than simply blocked at the top. We photograph the state of those before and after so landlords and letting agents have a clear record. Across Penwortham and Walton-le-Dale, on the south bank of the Ribble, the older bay-fronted semis with their original hoppers are the ones where a cracked or sagging section tends to show up, and we flag those rather than just clearing past them.

Across the city the service mix shifts with the housing. In Fulwood, Broadgate and Ashton-on-Ribble, where there are more detached homes with conservatories and bay windows, it's as often conservatory roof cleaning, fascia and soffit soft-washing and driveway pressure washing as it is plain gutter work, and those jobs bunch up in spring when people start using their gardens again. In the denser terraced streets around Ribbleton, Deepdale and Plungington it's the gutters and downpipes that dominate, usually in autumn once the leaves are down. Preston's position on the Ribble means drainage comes into it too: blocked gullies and surface-water drains are a recurring call on the lower-lying streets near the river after heavy rain.
